About this tool
The calculator assumes you deposit the full yearly amount early in the year and that interest is added once a year at a fixed rate. Each year the balance becomes (balance + deposit) × (1 + rate ÷ 100). For example, ₹1,50,000 a year for 15 years at 7.1% comes to about ₹40.7 lakh, of which ₹22.5 lakh is your own money. A PPF account accepts at most ₹1,50,000 per financial year. The government announces the rate every quarter and it can go up or down, so please check the current rate. Actual interest is worked out on monthly balances, so small differences are normal. Tax treatment depends on your tax regime.
