About this tool

To add GST: GST amount = amount × rate ÷ 100, and total = amount + GST. To remove GST from a GST-inclusive price: amount before GST = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). For sales within one state, GST is split equally into CGST and SGST (or UTGST in a union territory). For sales between states, the whole amount is charged as IGST. Since 22 September 2025, most goods and services are taxed at 5% or 18%, with 40% on select luxury and sin goods and nil rate on some items. The rate for a specific item depends on its classification, so check the official GST notification or ask your tax professional. For invoices from before that date, use "Other rate" and enter 12 or 28.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add GST to a price?

How do I remove GST from a GST-inclusive price?

Choose "Remove GST" and enter the total price. Amount before GST = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). For example, ₹1,180 including 18% GST is ₹1,000 before GST, with ₹180 of GST.

What are the current GST rates in India?

Since 22 September 2025, the main rates are 5% and 18%, with 40% for select luxury and sin goods, and some items nil-rated. The rate for your item depends on its classification, so confirm it from the official GST rate notification or with a tax professional.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

For a sale within one state, GST is split equally between the Centre (CGST) and the state (SGST). For a sale from one state to another, the full GST is charged as IGST.

Can I calculate GST at an old rate like 12% or 28%?

Yes. Choose "Other rate" and type the rate. This is useful for invoices from before 22 September 2025.
