About this tool

With compounding, the maturity amount is P × (1 + R ÷ (100 × n))^(n × T), where n is how many times a year interest is added (4 for quarterly). Many Indian banks add interest quarterly. If you choose "only at maturity", simple interest P × R × T ÷ 100 is used. For example, ₹1,00,000 at 7% for 5 years with quarterly compounding gives about ₹1.41 lakh. Banks can round the period differently or use their own day-count, so your bank's figure may differ slightly. Tax and TDS on interest are not included.

Frequently asked questions

How is FD maturity calculated?

The deposit grows by the interest rate for each compounding period. The formula is P × (1 + R ÷ (100 × n))^(n × T).

Which compounding should I pick?

Check your bank's FD terms. Quarterly is common. Cumulative FDs add the interest back, while payout FDs pay it out.

Is FD interest taxable?

Yes, interest is generally taxed as income. TDS may apply. This calculator does not include tax.

What is the difference between FD and RD?

An FD is one deposit made at the start. An RD takes a fixed deposit every month. See the RD Calculator.

Is my data stored?

No. The calculation happens in your browser.
