How to Convert PDF to Word
You can turn the text of a PDF into an editable Word file. It works best on text-based PDFs.
Step by step
- Open PDF to Word.
- Choose your PDF.
- Click convert and download the .docx file.
- Open it in Word or any word processor and fix the formatting.
What to expect
- The tool extracts the text, grouped into lines and paragraphs. It does not copy complex layouts, images or tables exactly.
- Always read through the result and fix headings and spacing.
When it will not work
- Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages, so there is no text to extract. You need OCR software for those. The tool shows a warning when a PDF has no text.
- Password-protected PDFs are not supported.
Other options
If you only need pages as pictures, use PDF to JPG. To edit text directly in a PDF, try Edit PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Will the layout stay the same?
No. The tool extracts text only, so complex layouts, tables and images will not be copied exactly.
Why is my converted file empty?
Your PDF is probably scanned, which means it has no text layer.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. It is processed in your browser.
